Sedimentation of My Mind

salvaged wood, hardware, book, eraser, sawdust

70 (h) x 43 (w) x 9 (d)”

Using salvaged heart pine I created an interactive piece as a material translation or analog of the Robert Smithson essay, "A Sedimentation of the Mind: Earth Projects," in which he compares mental experience to geological processes. Viewers can climb the ladder to read this text* on the top shelf, see the eraser and eraser bits on the second shelf, and view the sanded undulations and hole through the bottom shelf to the pile of sawdust on the floor.
